ENGINEERING 2.0: STAR GRADUATES OR EMERGING TALENTS?

Before addressing this question, I will provide you with more information on the subject:

In this graph, we can observe the evolution of the number of students in vocational training programs, undergraduate programs, and master’s programs from 1985 to 2015. The number of graduates has almost tripled!

While there were relatively stable periods from 1995 to 2005, it’s evident that there has been a significant increase in the number of individuals receiving education over the last 35 years.

Similarly, we can observe in this second graph. Over 60% of students enrolled in master’s studies in the last 7 years!

Now, what do you think? Is this education essential for accessing companies in the sector? Are all the skills taught in this type of education necessary for companies?

On one hand, it’s clear that we gain access to vast knowledge, specialized professors, networking opportunities with companies, meticulously curated literature, etc. We have the chance to acquire very profound knowledge.

On the other hand, aren’t there millionaires who never attended university? Aren’t there successful entrepreneurs who didn’t complete their studies? Aren’t there dedicated employees committed to their companies who lack formal academy training?

Of course, there are! IT ALL DEPENDS!

Do you know what it depends on? It depends on you, on me, on each one of us.

My experience has shown me that most of where you are and where you will be depends on the attitude with which you approach each day, the ability to set achievable goals and strive until you achieve them.

I’ve seen companies led by individuals without formal education but with incredible vision, negotiation skills, and problem-solving abilities. They possess thought patterns that break away from the “expected,” undoubtedly skills not typically acquired in universities.

So congratulations! Today is your lucky day.

If you want to venture into any sector, show your eagerness to learn, your willingness to work hard, your proactive attitude, your charisma, your empathy… All companies need profiles like that.

And remember, these skills are not taught in universities; they are habits we can develop in our day-to-day lives and for our way of life.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” (Aristotle, 384 BC – 322 BC)
